Save the Date: Scaregrove Halloween Event at Stern Grove on October 24  
Celebrate Halloween with Rec and Park on October 24! Our annual Scaregrove event at Stern Grove is fast becoming one of the city's premier Halloween destinations for families.  Come dressed in your favorite costume and enjoy carnival rides, a haunted house, live entertainment, music, food for sale, hay rides and much, much more!  Cost is $8 per person; children under 2 years old are free.  Click here to download our event postcard, or visit sfrecpark.orgfor more information, including how you can purchase advance tickets.

14th Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival Heats Up Golden Gate Park Crowd      
An estimated 700,000 music lovers braved the 90-degree heat October 3-5 for the 14th Annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park. The free event, courtesy of the late-Warren Hellman, featured a lineup of the music industry's greats, including Dwight Yoakam, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Chris Isaak, and Emmylou Harris.  Click here to read the San Francisco Chronicle's wrap-up of the festival, or click here to see some awesome Instagram shots from throughout the weekend. 
Community Opportunity Fund Encourages Park Lovers to Improve Their Local Parks     
Are you a group or individual with an idea for how to improve your neighborhood park? Apply for a Community Opportunity Fund (COF) project and help make a difference in your community.

As part of the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond, the Department's COF program is a $6 million capital program that encourages residents, neighborhood groups and park advocates to propose capital projects that will improve their local parks, e.g., the installation or replacement of playgrounds, paths, benches, drinking fountains or sports courts.

Mobile Rec at Hamilton Rec Center on October 11   

Come out to Hamilton Rec Center (1900 Geary Blvd.) for a Mobile Rec event on Saturday, October 11, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. This free recreation event features non-traditional sports like climbing, slack lining, disc golf, skateboarding, BMX biking and more. We provide the gear and safety equipment on site. Get out and play.
Saturday in the Park McLaren Concert on October 11  
This weekend, come out to the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park for the latest installment of the Saturday in the Park McLaren concert series.  This week's artists include Wake the Dead, Delmarva and the Beauty Operators.  See you at the AMP!  For more info, click here.
Fencing World Cup Comes to Kezar Pavilion October 17-19  
The Men's Foil World Cup TournamentOctober 17-19 at Kezar Pavilion in Golden Gate Park, is the first held in the USA. See Olympians, world champions, and top fencers from 32 counties compete. For more information, including how to purchase tickets, click here.
Explore and Play in Celebration of SF's Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights on October 18
Come out to Mountain Lake Park on October 18, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., for a day of fun and exploration in celebration of the San Francisco  Children's Bill of Rights.  Featuring lawn games, wildlife viewing, bike rodeo, and much, much more!  For more information, visit sfcan.org. 
NFC Fitness Court Challenge Fundraiser for the Parks on October 25    
National Fitness Campaign is proud to announce the NFC Fitness Court® Challenge Event at Marina Green! The event, held in partnership with the San Francisco Recreation & Parks, will take place on Saturday, October 25 on the Marina Green at Webster. The event includes a boot camp, battle of the best trainer competition, live DJ, giveaways and much more. This event is FREE to attend! The first 500 registrants will receive a free t-shirt or prize!
